In 2012, the community led project, GitHub Archive was launched, providing a glimpse into the ways people build software on GitHub. Today, we're delighted to announce that, in collaboration with Google, we are releasing a collection of additional BigQuery tables to expand on the data from that project.

Enter Access My Info, an online tool developed by Open Effect and the University of Toronto's Citizen Lab, at the Munk School of Global Affairs. This tool makes it easier for Canadians to keep track of how their personal information is being used.

The Snowden/NSA revelations have shown that the U.S. and its allies' secretive "signals intelligence agencies" routinely collect, mine and analyze this system, partly with help from the private companies that operate it. But what are the risks and trade-offs for liberty and privacy? And, who guards against abuses of power when the state watches everything and everyone, all the time?
