This is the first post in my new blog. There was a blog here before, one I run during more than 10 years, and it was fun for a while. At some point it (it being the WordPress installation that kept it running) crashed and I did not have the time or the will (or both) to fix it.

In the end, I grew tired of having to keep an eye on housekeeping tasks. This plugin is no longer maintained, that one has a severe security bug still unfixed, there is a comment in the spam queue that shouldn't be there, a new WordPress update is coming next week... It required attention; I just wanted to write.

For the time being, I moved my Spanish writing to Medium, which is a nice platform, but I don't really like the idea of having my stuff in a place I don't quite control. I wanted the control, but not the endless trouble of having to maintain a blogging server. And then I also wanted a blog to write in English about machine learning, data analysis, some related stuff and some other things not related at all.

Some days ago, I found pelican, which is what I was looking for: a system that lets you write on a regular text editor, compiles it (sort of), and you then upload the resulting static contents to your server. Furthermore, all the files, including the site configuration and themes, can be managed using git, which is incredibly convenient. The whole site can even be published to github pages.

PS: as you might have guessed by now, English is not my mother tongue. Sometimes I sound funny, but I can't help it. Bear with me.

There is no comment system. If you want to tell me something about this article, you can do so via e-mail or Mastodon.
